It used to be, trash was trash. Garbage was garbage. Life was simple. But all that has changed. The average home is now encouraged to practice refuse profiling. Before you toss something, you have to stop and think…is this garbage, recyclable or compost? It’s enough to make your head hurt. But the question is, does all this recycling business actually help the planet?
Here are some interesting statistics:
Let’s look at plastics.
Plastics are made from petroleum. Petroleum is a limited, nonrenewable resource. So obviously, recycling a limited resource is always a good idea. Where does my plastic go when I recycle? Take the plastic bench at your neighborhood park or corner bus stop. Chances are it is made out of recycled plastic. It is estimated that it takes something like 1,050 recycled milk jugs to create one of those shiny new benches. Think of that the next time you sit down at the bus stop.
How about aluminum?
Americans throw away about 35 billion aluminum cans every year. If all of these cans were recycled, we would save an amount of energy equivalent to 150 Exxon Valdez oil spills annually. Americans discard enough aluminum to rebuild our entire commercial air fleet every 3 months. When you recycle, your used aluminum beer can returns to the grocer’s shelf as a new, filled can in as little as 90 days after collection, re-melting, rolling, manufacturing and distribution. Think of it! Consumers could purchase the same recycled aluminum can from a grocer's shelf every 13 weeks or four times a year.
Recycling glass.
Today, the average jelly jar contains at least 25% recycled glass. Thanks to all of the people who diligently recycle their glass. The best thing about glass is that it never wears out. Consequently, it can be recycled forever. It is estimated that recycling just one six-pack of longnecks can save enough energy to light a 100-watt bulb for 24 hours. Recycling one ton of glass saves the equivalent of 10 gallons of refined oil. Not bad.
Paper products reincarnated.
Americans throw away the equivalent of more than 30 million trees in newsprint each year. If you stacked up all of the paper an average citizen uses in a year, the piles would be as tall as a two-story house. The EPA has found that making paper from recycled materials results in 74% less air pollution and 35% less water pollution. This means that every ton of recycled paper keeps almost 60 pounds of pollutants out of the atmosphere. It is predicted that recycling half of the world’s paper would free 20 million acres of forest land. Every ton of recycled paper saves approximately four barrels of oil, 4,200 kilowatt hours of energy and enough energy to heat and air-condition the average North American home for almost six months.
So clearly, recycling is worth the effort. If we all do our part, there will be less pollution, more available energy and a whole lot more planet for our children to enjoy.

I need major help bathroom remodeling. My contractors fucking work: (?
I hired a service company through Magic to remodel my bathroom hallway. I had to tear down the walls and remove all existing tabs. I bought marble tiles for shower and glass tiles to be used as a border. After the "finished" the job I took a look at what is installed. The tile border in and out. So if you slide your hand across it, your hand goes in a wave motion. I'm trying to explain this to the contractors and they tell me all the glass tiles are installed by this so ...??? They're saying, because it is flexible, which makes entry and exit. Please help me. Why this happened. What can I say to them to make them understand that was not installed correctly?
It is necessary to address them! They are taking for a fool and think that you can only do a horrible job and still get paid. You need to stand your ground and tell them they did a bad job and needs to be re-done, or not paid. If they say no, or challenge, then a request to the court, they messed up, you did nothing wrong. Good luck!

how do i install 1" glass mosaic tile into the border of my 4 x 4 porcelain tile kitchen backsplash?
We are installing a 4x4 porcelain tile backsplash in our kitchen. We want to add a 1x1 border trim of glass mosaic tile to add some interest. We aren't sure how to do that considering the porcelain is about double the thickness of the mosaic tile. We were concerned with just trying to build out the mastic to the right thickness for fear that we wouldn't be successful. How is this typically handled? I'm sure people have added mosaic tiles in with regular ceramic tiles. How did they do it?
I think you would have to use thinset not mastic. apply in 2 applications and be sure to use white thin set not grey if glass is see thru and make sure thinset is smooth on second coat no grooves or it Will show thruogh the glass.

Anyway, I'll be eating a sandwich kind of vegetable, but the reason I'm thinking is because I just had to Subway today (a wheat sandwich with all the vegetables, pepperjack cheese, mustard and honey), so do not know if it's healthy to do this again. Also, someone invited us to dinner tomorrow night and they probably serve us food portions. I do not want to overeat, but tomorrow is supposed to is a fun day of the mother of his daughter. At home, I will be with a whole wheat sandwich with potatoes, green beans and peas, jalapeno peppers, onions and a glass skim milk.
From a nutritional standpoint, I see no problem with this. In fact I remember that advertising on a man who lost something like a couple of hundred pounds more than vegetable sandwiches subway, and no apparent problems of nutrition. Other considerations: what is over, the time or money? Eating at home is probably a cheaper option, but if it means taking time from his son (s), it makes sense to me. Meanwhile you not filling the same with what I call food TV chips (, pop, rich in sugar, fat, salt or all three), so I doubt that overeating would a serious problem. Enjoy!
